Asda Case Study

Project Bakery Upgrade
Location Scotland and North East England
Client ASDA
Value £ Various

Job Description

Replacement of Bakery floors carried out as part of ASDA’s ongoing maintenance and improvement programme.

Why

The flooring in most ASDA bakeries comprises terrazzo tiles. It was decided to enhance the slip resistance in these areas as part of their continuous improvement programme.

Solution

It was imperative that disruption was kept to an absolute minimum and that the bakeries were open for business each morning. We supplied and installed Veitchiflake PAS which is rapid curing, can be laid over existing floors and leaves no off-putting residual odours.

Method

In partnership with CBES, one of the UK’s leading maintenance contractors, who erect the protective enclosure and carry out air monitoring throughout the resin application, Veitchi Industrial Flooring prepare and lay the new floor to an agreed area overnight allowing the bakery to open for business the next day.

Programme

Following the Pre Start Meeting, along with HS&E information, Veitchi Industrial Flooring prepare a schedule of works dividing the bakery floor into areas which can be started and completed each night. This includes start and finish times of key work activities which allow CBES to carefully manage air monitoring and re-opening of the bakery. In an evening, we normally complete 100–150 sqm with a typical bakery completed in 3 nights.

Benefits to client

Asda get the benefit of newly installed, hardwearing slip resistant finish without any disruption to their business. The use of rapid hardening Veitchiflake polyaspartic resin allows flooring to be laid overnight with the bakeries returned to service at 06.00, safe in the knowledge that there will be no lingering odour or taint associated with the application of other resins.

Inchinnan Case Study

Project Inchinnan Easter Temporary Shutdown Project
Location Inchinnan, Renfrewshire
Client Life Technologies
Value £20,000

Job Description

Upgrade of flooring as part of the modification and reconfiguring of process areas to be carried out during a planned shutdown over the Easter break.

Why

In line with changes being made to a suite of process areas, Life Technologies required the floors in each section to be upgraded, including the provision of additional wet areas.

Solution

We supplied and installed 150 sqm of Altroflow EP 3000 providing an easily maintained, smooth, high gloss, seamless surface giving the high level of chemical and impact resistance specified by the client. A further 70 sqm of Degafloor QT MMA complete with coved skirting was laid providing a decorative, hard wearing, non-slip finish to the wet areas.

Programme

To comply with Life Technology’s process requirements the modification works were programmed on twenty four hour working over a period of nine days, including an allowance for client fit out. As Veitchi Industrial Flooring’s activities featured at the start of the programme, with uplift and preparation, and installing the floors at the end we provided an hour by hour activity schedule allowing the Client’s project manager to programme the remainder of the works with the precision required. Veitchi worked around the clock to ensure section completion times were achieved, in some instances ahead of programme, allowing following gtrades the maximum time possible to undertake their works.

Benefits to client

Not only does Life Technology have an attractive floor which is fit for purpose, but Veitchi’s proactive approach to managing the programme ensured all work areas were handed back as scheduled, allowing Life Technology’s activities to recommence as planned.
